We live in a small-ish town.
Not so small that we know everyone on a first name basis and we don't all ride around in the back of pick-up trucks.
But we have one stoplight.
And two Dollar General stores.
It's that kind of small town.
So while I know a lot of people in the area, particularly so since I'm a business owner, there are still a lot of faces that aren't familiar.
Like Herbert's.
There is a man that sits in a truck at the end of our road.
He's there almost every day.
Sometimes in the mornings.
Sometimes in the evenings.
He sits in the same spot in the same truck although sometimes he stands outside the truck leaning on it.
At first we thought he was waiting on a carpool buddy.
Then we thought he was an escaped convict looking for his partner in crime.
At one point we decided that he was waiting for the woman he was in love with who was supposed to meet him in that exact spot several months ago and has never showed.
Then we decided he was a Russian spy.
Someone suggested that he was working on an experiment which involved counting the number of red cars or license plate numbers starting with three.
Then we surmised that he was an FBI agent on a stakeout.
I thought maybe he was stealing Wi-Fi but he's never looking at a device...just out the window.
The kids think he's homeless.
Then I thought maybe that spot is the only place he can get reception for his favorite radio station.
Or maybe he's not allowed to smoke in his house so he smokes in the truck parked at the end of our road.
Maybe he's a stalker.
At any rate, we've gotten sort of used to him being there.
The kids are always on the look out to see if he's there or not.
The kids are always on the look out to see if he's there or not.
We named him Herbert.
If he were driving a white commercial van I would be totally freaked out but he's driving a green pick-up truck.
And now it's public, so if he has bad intentions towards someone, he now knows that his secret is out and I could identify him in a line-up.
Provided he reads the blog.
