And now for a recent conversation that occurred during a family game of Monopoly:
Me (with sarcasm, in reference to something that I can't remember): Well, that was real subtle.
Mercede: What does "subtle" even mean?
Summer: You know, like a subtle vision.
Me (with a scrunched up nose of confusion): A what?
Matt (shaking his head): No. That's a subdivision.
Summer (laughing): Oh. That makes more sense.
London (with disgust in his voice): Duh. Subtle means to be quiet or lay down...you know, like subtle down!
Me: Oh my god. You mean, settle. Settle down. Not subtle.
At this point Matt and I erupt into laughter and the conversation continues like this:
Matt: Well, you were looking for something to blog about, so there ya go.
Me: True.
Summer: No! You can't blog about that. We have rights!
Mercede: Yeah! Let's strike!
Summer: We need a placard!
London: Yeah! We don't have to take this abuse!
In conclusion:
My children that range in age from eleven to fifteen still don't know the definition of "subtle" but they not only know what a placard is but also the proper circumstances in which to use one.
I don't know what this means.
