Dead Presidents for $200, Alex

We were driving home from St. Louis last night.
We had just met a black man named Thomas Jefferson who made a few little jokes about his name and how people pictured him before they meet him.
The following conversation ensued between Matt, the kids and I:
Me:  I really liked him.
Matt:  Me too, but he should have done the Jefferson Walk for us.
Me (confused):  Jefferson had a "walk"?

Matt:  Well, yeah!  You know...the walk...and he also did a little dance.
Mercede:  No, dad.  You're thinking of George JETSON!

Me (coming to a realization):  Um.  Matt, I think you're talking about GEORGE Jefferson...not THOMAS Jefferson, the President of the United States.  And Mercede, George JETSON was a cartoon character.
Matt:  Oh.

Mercede:  Oh.
Summer:  Well, Melody said that Thomas Jefferson killed Abraham Lincoln.
Me:  Thomas Jefferson did not kill Abraham Lincoln.  That was that one guy.  Oh, what was his name?
Matt:  Lee Harvey Oswald.

Me:  No.  That's who killed JFK.
Matt:  Oh yeah.

Summer:  Who's JFK?
Me (looking at Matt):  Seriously?  We're failing.

Matt (to Summer):  You don't know know who JFK is?
Summer:  Don't you mean KFC?
*Eruptions in riotous laughter.*
*More laughter (though the kids have no idea why they're laughing).*
Me:  I give up, but thanks guys for some great blogging material.
PS--It's John Wilkes Booth.

We have those conversations in our family too, I end up feeling frustrated, and old. But mostly you just have to laugh.

LOL This is great. I would have known that answer right away. American History was my favorite. You Dirty Dog Dealing Dud :) :) (You did have Mr. McKenney, right?) By the way, these pics bring tears to my eyes :( I can't decide if I'm crying because I'm so freaking old or if it's because I remember this boy when he was so young. My second favorite red head.... the pictures capture every bit of his personality & I love it!!

Cede' don't feel stupid, laugh, laugh laugh. It's good for the soul.
Besides, soon mom will have more material than she can use when she starts in on me. Bring it on! I am sure that the audience could use any laughs we can get these days.
Brandi, I bet this young man never realized he could be so 'cool'.Great work!
